Oncology Pharmacy: Are We Ready for Formulary and Medication Management?
A Test Case for Multiple Myeloma
Web Activity
Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists, physicians, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Statement of Need/Program Overview
Oncology pharmacy management has evolved as cancer care becomes more complex and concerns about cost and patient access continue to emerge. Being able to assess the evidence-based data on therapies, deploying programs to assure safety, and evaluating the cost-effectiveness of therapeutic options are paramount to achieving the best possible outcomes in today's health care environment. Given a finite level of resources, it is vital that managed care professionals understand the relationship between costs and clinical outcomes for cancer treatments.
Using multiple myeloma as a test case example, this activity will recommend innovative approaches for managed care professionals to consider implementing within their current setting as well as extrapolating to other areas of oncology pharmacy management in the future. Participants in this activity will be awarded access to an Oncology Managed Care Pharmacy Tool Box containing examples of resources and tools that have been used successfully by clinicians, educators, peer review organizations, managed care organizations, and others to improve oncology care management.
