Dr. Chiesa Fuxench is Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she led a specialty clinic focused on the care of patients with inflammatory skin diseases including psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. She is also affiliated with multiple hospitals within the Penn health-care system.

Dr. Chiesa Fuxench received her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she also completed a residency in dermatology and served as chief resident during her senior year. She then relocated to Penn to pursue post-doctoral training and complete a 2-year Master’s in Clinical Epidemiology at the at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.

Dr. Chiesa Fuxench’s research interests in atopic dermatitis (AD) are broad and include the epidemiology and pathogenesis of AD, comorbidities, and new therapeutic options. Her research has been supported by the National Psoriasis Foundation, Women’s Dermatological Society, and the Dermatology Foundation. She recently presented the results of a population-based study on the prevalence and impact on quality of life of atopic dermatitis at the 2018 Society for Investigational Dermatology annual meeting. Her research on the epidemiology of inflammatory skin diseases has been presented at national symposia and has been reported in numerous peer-reviewed articles and abstracts in such publications as the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, the British Journal of Dermatology, JAMA dermatology, and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Chiesa Fuxench also participates in a number of committees with her institution and the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) including serving on the on the Interest Group for Diversity in Dermatology in the Department of Dermatology, and the Council on Science and Research with the AAD.

Dr. Chiesa Fuxench is a fellow of the AAD and a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, Society of Investigative Dermatology, Women’s Dermatological Society, and the Puerto Rico Society of Dermatology.
