Sarina B. Elmariah, MD, PhD, MPH is a board-certified dermatologist and developmental neuroscientist. She received an MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and concurrently a PhD in developmental neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania School Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, where she was awarded the Saul Winegrad Award for outstanding graduate thesis and the Balduin Lucke Memorial Prize for superior research in medicine and biology. She subsequently earned a Master of Public Health at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health. She completed her residency in dermatology at New York University, where she served as a chief resident. Thereafter, she joined the dermatology faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2010, where she directed the MGH Itch and Neurocutaneous Disorders Clinic. She was recently recruited to the University of California San Francisco where she directs the UCSF Center of Excellence for Itch and Neurosensory Disorders. Her clinical expertise is in managing the broad spectrum of itching disorders. Her research aims to promote discovery and innovation in the neuro-immune-cutaneous arena and to improve how we characterize, diagnose and manage common skin disorders. She is the recipient of numerous awards and research grants, including the Dermatology Foundation Physician-Scientist Career Development Award, an MGH Claflin Distinguished Scholar Award, K08 Mentored Scientist Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health, and the American Academy of Dermatology 2018 Young Investigator Award. She was recently named a top doc in Boston, as featured in Boston magazine. She reviews for many top tier dermatology and scientific journals, has been featured in mainstream media (including Women’s Health, O magazine, Shape, Consumer Reports, Parents, Reader’s Digest, Today.com, Gizmodo, etc), and serves as a consultant for numerous pharmaceutical, commercial and educational companies focused on advancing the frontiers of skin science and health.
